Warriors are a less visible topic in the study of imperial China. They did not write history, but they made new history by destroying the old. The fall of the first enduring Chinese empire, the Han, collides with the rise of its last warriors known as the “talons and fangs.” Despite some classical or deceptive myths like the Chinese ideal of bloodless victories and a culture without soldiers, the talons and fangs of the Eastern Han warlords demonstrated the full potential of military prestige in a Confucian hierarchy, the bloodcurdling reality of dynastic rivalry, as well as a romantic tradition infatuated with individual heroism. Las Cruzadas, y en especial los acontecimientos acaecidos en la Europa Central en torno a 1096, supusieron un cambio radical en la visión que hasta entonces se tenía de las comunidades judías europeas. Si bien es cierto que la visión de la Iglesia hacia los judíos había sido negativa desde el principio, esta se había mantenido dentro de los cauces religiosos y doctrinales, fue con el movimiento cruzado cuando se desato una tormenta que a medio plazo cambio definitivamente la mentalidad, y convirtió a los judíos en enemigos sociales, surgió así el antisemitismo, que acabo impidiendo no solo la convivencia entre cristianos y judíos, sino cualquier tipo de integración de los judíos, aunque estos se convirtieran al cristianismo. Este tema hasta ahora se había tratado por la historiografía judía y en esta obra se ve la visión desde un no judío, de la reacción de todas las partes en el desarrollo de los terribles acontecimientos de 1096.

Tras los movimientos de protesta radical de finales de los sesenta, varios países desarrollados sufrieron una oleada de terrorismo revolucionario. Grupos como las Brigadas Rojas en Italia, la Facción del Ejército Rojo en Alemania, los GRAPO en España o el Ejército Rojo Unido en Japón provocaron crisis políticas con sus acciones armadas. Hubo otros países, sin embargo, en los que o bien no aparecieron estos grupos o, si surgieron, no cometieron atentados mortales.
